Created in 1944, at one point, this drink stopped being the delicious concoction created by legendary bartender Trader Vic and started being some kind of sweet, red monster. You can thank the 1980s for that. Thankfully, today's bartenders have revived it, and it can now be made in all its original glory.

Mai Tai

Aged rum, orange liqueur, lime, and orgeat


Glassware

Rocks glass


Garnish

Spent lime husk, a mint sprig and a marashino cherry skewered onto a pineapple wedge


Ingredients

60ml Tequila

15ml Orange liqueur (such as orange curacao, or triple sec) 30ml Lime Cocktail Juice

15ml Orgeat


Recipe

  1. Prepare your glass and garnish.

  2. Shake all ingredients with ice.

  3. Fine strain into the glass filled with ice.

  4. Garnish.
