Japanese Cocktail

  • May 18
  • 1 min read

A spirit-forward brandy cocktail with orgeat and bitters.

The Japanese Cocktail is a simple old-school classic that shows how useful orgeat can be outside of tropical drinks. Brandy gives it warmth and depth, while orgeat adds sweetness, texture and a soft almond finish.

Japanese Cocktail Brandy, orgeat and bitters.

Glassware

Coupe glass.

Garnish

Lemon twist.

Optional: freshly grated nutmeg.

Ingredients

60ml brandy

15ml Orgeat

2 dashes aromatic bitters, such as Angostura

Optional: 5ml Lemon Cocktail Juice

Recipe

Prepare your glass and garnish first.

Add the brandy, Orgeat and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.

Stir until chilled and properly diluted.

Strain into the prepared glass.

Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes

This is a spirit-forward drink, so use a brandy with enough body to carry the almond and bitters.

The Lemon Cocktail Juice is optional, but helpful if you want a brighter, slightly more approachable version.
